Camera

Take the camera out from the bottom bar of the menu: Photo, then Camera. The menu closes and the camera appears in front of you. To put it away, choose Photo, then Put the camera away, or press the cross on the camera.

In VR

  • Hold it: take it with the grip, like any object. Its screen faces you and shows what the lens sees.
  • Take a photo: press the trigger of the hand that holds it, or the round white button on its right.
  • Leave it in the air: let go of the grip. The camera stays where it is, without falling; take it again with the grip. A camera left in the air is handy for a photo of yourself with the timer.

With keyboard and mouse

Press P to take the camera out or put it away. It sits at the bottom right of your view and aims where you look; its screen shows the photo you are about to take.

  • Take a photo: left click. While the camera is out, the left click takes the photo and uses nothing else.
  • Leave it where it is: show the mouse pointer (Tab) and click the pin button on the camera. Click it again to bring the camera back in front of your view.

The other buttons of the camera are clicked the same way, with the mouse pointer. See Controls.

The options:

  • Hide nametags and menus: on by default. The nametags of the players, the menu, the VR keyboard and the notifications do not show on your photos (nor on the camera's screen). Turn it off to keep them.
  • High definition: photos of 3840 × 2160 pixels (4K) on a computer, 2560 × 1440 on Quest, instead of 1920 × 1080.

The camera keeps your choices for the next time.

Your photos

Each photo is a high quality JPEG, saved at once:

  • on Windows, in your Pictures folder, in a NodeWorld folder;
  • on Linux, in your pictures folder (the one of your desktop, often Pictures or Images), in a NodeWorld folder;
  • on Quest, in the headset's gallery, in Pictures/NodeWorld.

Find them in the game in the Gallery, where you can make one your profile picture or send it to a friend.

The file says where and when it was taken: the world, the instance, the players present and the date. Nothing else: no position, no account. When you send a photo in a message, NodeWorld removes all of this from the copy it sends (see Messages).

What the others see

The players around you see your camera, in your hand or where you left it, and hear its shutter and its timer at their Menu volume (see Sound volumes). A player you blocked, or who blocked you, sees and hears none of it.
