Voice chat

In a world, the players of your instance hear you through your microphone, and you hear them. Each voice comes from its avatar: you hear it from where the player is, louder close by, softer as they walk away, and not at all from 25 meters. A world can change how far voices carry.

Your microphone

  • Mute or unmute: Mic On / Mic Off on the bottom bar, V with keyboard and mouse, or Mute microphone in Settings > Mic. All three are the same switch.
  • The mic icon, in the bottom left, shows while your voice is sent, and stays crossed out while your microphone is muted (see Mic icon).
  • Mic threshold, in Settings > Mic: how loud your voice must be before it is sent. Raise it if the others hear your breathing or the noise around you; lower it if your first words are cut.
  • Microphone, in Settings > Mic (on PC): which microphone the game listens to, the system's by default.

NodeWorld only sends your voice when it hears someone speak. It removes the sound of the game from your microphone (the others do not hear the world through your speakers), lowers the noise around you and brings every microphone to the same level.

The others' voices

  • Voices, in the Sound button of the bottom bar or in Settings > Sound, sets the volume of every voice together (see Sound volumes).
  • On a player's card (click their nametag, or their row on the World page), Mute silences them for you and Volume sets their voice alone, from silent to twice as loud. Nobody else hears the change.
  • On their nametag, a green ring around the picture shows who is speaking, and a crossed microphone whose microphone is off (see Nametags).
  • Avatars that have mouth shapes move their mouth while their player speaks.

A player you blocked, or who blocked you, is never heard: the server does not send your voices to each other (see Block a player).

Nobody hears me

  1. Look at the bottom bar: Mic Off means you are muted; choose it to turn the microphone on.
  2. If Settings > Mic says that NodeWorld has no access to the microphone, allow it:
    • on Meta Quest, in the headset's settings, then turn the microphone back on in the game;
    • on Windows, in Windows' privacy settings (Microphone): turn on Let desktop apps access your microphone, then turn the microphone back on in the game.
  3. On PC, check in Settings > Mic that the game listens to the right microphone.
  4. Speak and look at the mic icon in the bottom left: if it does not show, lower the Mic threshold.
  5. Check that the players are in your instance and closer than 25 meters, and that they did not mute you.
