Nametags

Each player of your instance has a nametag above their head, turned towards you. Beyond arm's length it grows with the distance, so it reads the same at 2 meters and at 10 meters.

What a nametag shows

  • Their picture, with a green ring around it while they talk.
  • Their name. A very long name ends with ….
  • The logo of what they play on: the system, then a headset in VR or a screen with keyboard and mouse (see below).
  • A crossed microphone on the picture when their microphone is off: they switched it off, or their system does not let NodeWorld use it. Nobody hears them.
  • "Zz" on their darkened picture when they are away (AFK).
  • A moon after their name when Do not disturb is on: they get no invites and no invite requests.
  • Friend when you are friends.
  • Their status, one sentence of 40 characters at most, set on the website.

Click a nametag

Point at a nametag and press the trigger, or click it with the mouse: the menu opens on the World page with the player's card over it, with their Profile and what you can do with this player (see A player's card).

Size and fade

Open Settings, tab Display, section Nametags:

  • Size: from 50% to 200% of the normal size (100%).
  • Fade with distance: far nametags fade out, so a full instance stays readable. On by default.
  • Fade distance: where a nametag is gone, from 5 to 500 meters (200 by default). It starts fading at three quarters of that distance: from 150 meters for 200 meters.

These settings are kept on your device and change every nametag at once.
