Install on Meta Quest
You need a Quest 2, 3 or 3S, the Meta Horizon app on your phone, and the NodeWorld .apk (the link you were sent). The first time takes about 15 minutes.
Create a Meta developer account
The Quest only installs apps from outside the store in developer mode, and developer mode needs a free developer account. You do this once.
- Open the Meta developer page and sign in with the same account as your headset.
- Create an organization: any name works, your username is fine. Accept the terms.
- If Meta asks for phone verification, do it.
Turn on developer mode
From your phone:
- Switch your headset on and keep it nearby.
- On your phone, open the Meta Horizon app, then Menu, then Devices, and pick your headset.
- Open Headset settings, then Developer mode, and switch it on.
- Restart the headset: hold the power button, then Restart.
Install the APK
Three ways, same result. The first needs nothing but the headset. After that, the game updates itself: it offers each new version when it starts and opens the headset's installer for it (see Game updates). Installing a new APK over the old one by hand also works: you lose nothing.
In the headset
- In the headset, open the Browser and go to the APK link you were sent. Download the file (about 130 MB) and wait for the end. If Google Drive says it cannot scan the file for viruses, choose Download anyway.
- From the menu, install the Files utility app if it is not there yet, then open it.
- In Files, find the NodeWorld APK (in Downloads).
- Click the three little dots next to it, then Open with, then Package Installer. Confirm the installation.
With SideQuest, from a PC
- On your PC, download the APK from the link you were sent, then download SideQuest (Windows, Mac or Linux), install it and open it.
- Plug the headset into the PC with a USB-C data cable (some cables only charge).
- Put the headset on. A box asks Allow USB debugging?: tick Always allow from this computer, then Allow. The dot at the top left of SideQuest turns green.
- Click the folder-with-an-arrow icon at the top of SideQuest (Install APK file from folder on computer), pick the APK, and wait for Success.
With adb, from a terminal
- On your PC, download the APK from the link you were sent, and SDK Platform-Tools from Google. Unzip Platform-Tools.
- Plug the headset in with a USB-C data cable, put it on and allow USB debugging (tick Always allow from this computer).
- Open a terminal in the Platform-Tools folder. The first command must list the headset as
device, notunauthorized. The second installs the APK (give the full path of your file);-rkeeps your data when you update.
bash
adb devices
adb install -r C:\path\to\NodeWorld.apkStart NodeWorld
In the headset:
- Open the App Library (the grid icon).
- In the filter at the top right, choose Unknown Sources: apps from outside the store are only listed there.
- Open NodeWorld. The first start takes a little longer.
- Allow microphone access when asked, so others can hear you.
Next: first launch and sign-in.
If something goes wrong
- SideQuest or adb does not see my headset: check that developer mode is on, use a USB-C data cable, and accept the USB debugging box inside the headset.
- Files does not offer Package Installer: check that developer mode is on, restart the headset, then try again.
- I do not see NodeWorld in the library: in the filter at the top right of the App Library, choose Unknown Sources.
- The install fails: free some space on the headset (the game needs about 2 GB), then try again.
- Nobody hears me: allow the microphone for NodeWorld in the headset's settings, then turn the microphone back on in the game.
